Sometimes, you just can't do with the usual songs that are easy on the ears and light on the mind. If the heaviness of the bass is what you seek when looking for an alternative to the endless soft music that plays on the radio, then you're at the right place.

Bass. Just uttering the word puts a pump in your step. The notes are deeper than most regular instruments, and the skill it takes to play one is just as deep too.

The only problem with selecting a good track with a nasty bassline from rock music, is that rock is excessively dominated by guitars and vocals. There ain't much of an attempt to put the drums and bass in the forefront. Which is why, the bass shines out better only when the composition asks for it, or if the player is exceptionally talented.

While progressive metal and the likes give much more importance to the percussive instruments, the area of bass will always be dominated by only a handful of artists, like Justin Chancellor (Tool), Geddy Lee (Rush), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), and Flea (R.H.C.P.).

The rest we have dedicated mostly to hip hop and electronic tracks, basically genres that allow a much wider room for bass notes to play around. In fact, most sub-categories (like dubstep, for example) in electronic music insist that the bass be louder than anything else!
