But, before learning to play the classical guitar, it's important to understand the physical and musical structure and its working.

Parts of the Classical Guitar

The classical guitar is principally made up of two parts. The neck and the body of the guitar are its macro divisions. The neck of the guitar is made up of tuning pegs, the fret board. The fret board is divided into 24 frets. The strings are pressed down on the frets to produce notes.
The notation pattern that is followed by a normally tuned classical guitar is, A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G and G#. Sometimes the pattern where A# is replaced by a B-flat note is also used. The tuning of six strings of a guitar produce the notes E, A, D, G, B, e', sequentially from top to bottom.
The body is the part of the guitar where the sound hole (which is also known as the rosette), has been carved. The sound hole emits the melodious sounds of guitar notations. The string of the guitar is supposed to be struck near the sound hole to get the best possible sound.
The strings can be either plucked by fingertips or a plectrum. The most important task in playing the classical guitar is coordination of plucking, and the notations hand, which can be achieved only after a lot of coordination practice.

Chords

The chords of the guitar are a collection of notes played together to derive a melodious sound in a single strum. The chords that are played on a classical guitar are classified into many types. However, the principally used chords are the majors and minors.
The major chords are many a used to musically depict a very happy and joyous mood, while the minors are used to display a depressing and sad mood. The guitar chords can nowadays be derived from many different sources on the Internet. Refer to the websites that provide guitar tabs for learning different types of chords and songs.

Scales

The scales are a set of musically harmonic notations, that are played to denote a particular notation or a chord. The major and minor scales are made up of 8 notations. If the C scale is played on the guitar, then the first and the last notes are C. After the first notation, the next notations are musically ascending harmonic notations of C notation.
The last or 8th note (C) is the notation that is common between the lower and higher octave. These scales are available on the Internet and are an important part of guitar lessons. They are used to derive chords and make music. Constant playing of the guitar scales improves the musical capability of the ear and helps in recognition of scales and chords.
It is recommended that one tries to play simple folk songs and even nursery rhymes in the initial learning stages. In the later stages, after a considerable mastery has been gained over the classical guitar, it is possible to play famous compositions by musicians like Yanni, Mozart and Beethoven.
