Hendrix in his early childhood found an ukulele amongst the garbage of an old woman’s home while performing an odd job. The ukulele had only one sting. At the age of 15, he acquired his first acoustic guitar for $5 (in mid-1958).

By the time Hendrix was 19 years old, he had been caught twice by the police for riding in stolen cars. He was given a choice between prison or joining the Army. Hendrix joined the Army and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division.
